Special Crimes

Unit Responsibilities

The Special Crimes Unit investigates the following types of crimes:

  • Crimes where an officer has to conduct an investigation while undercover
  • Gang activity
  • Narcotic activity
  • Vice crimes

The Special Crimes Unit also supplements local, state, and federal law enforcement with major crimes such as murder, rape, kidnapping, and major assaults. The Special Crimes Unit works with the cooperation of DEA Task Forces and has officers assigned to two such units.

Being Pro-Active

Although the Special Crimes Unit is a proactive policing unit, it handles an influx of information from named and anonymous sources regarding suspected narcotics activity and other crimes. In addition, the Special Crimes Unit is involved with educating the public regarding the topic of narcotics and gangs. Lectures and speaking engagements are scheduled throughout the year with public and private organizations. For more information, contact unit supervisor, Lt. James Peel.
