What is a Volunteer Deputy Registrar?

Volunteer Deputy Registrars are entrusted with the responsibility of officially registering voters in the State of Texas.  They are appointed by county voter registrars and charged with helping increase voter registration in the state.  They administer voter registration applications and take responsibility for making sure the citizen completes the application correctly so there is no delay in processing.

What are the qualifications?

To qualify as a Volunteer Deputy Registrar, you must be:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • A United States Citizen
  • A resident of the State of Texas

You cannot be:

  • Determined by a final judgement of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be totally, mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated, without the right to vote.
  • Convicted of failing to deliver a voter application to a voter registrar.
  • Convicted of a felony or, if so convicted, you must be fully discharged of the sentence, including any term of incarceration, parole, or supervision, or completed a period of probation ordered by any court, or you were pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disability to vote.
  • Convicted of identity theft under Sec. 32.51 of the Texas Penal Code.

What are the duties of a Volunteer Deputy Registrar?

  • Distribute, assist in completion & review of voter registration applications.
  • Accept completed voter registration applications and provide receipts.
  • Turn in completed application in person to their county voter registrar office within 5 calendar days.
  • Volunteer Deputy Registrar may distribute and accept a voter registration form from any resident of Parker County, in order to accept applications from a resident from another county, you must become a Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrar in that county.

What is the length of appointment?

You may be appointed a Volunteer Deputy Registrar at any time.  However, your term expires on December 31 of the next even-numbered year. 

How do I become a Volunteer Deputy Registrar?

  • Online: Read through the Volunteer Deputy Registrar Guide (English, Spanish), go through the Volunteer Deputy Registrar Training (English, Spanish), when finished reviewing those documents come to our office at 1112 Santa Fe Dr, Weatherford.  Fill out a certificate and take a short exam.  The office will give you all of your supplies.
