Parker County Commissioners Court has recognized April as Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month.
Pinwheels and banners recognizing victims of child abuse and the local organizations who are working to protect the children of Parker County are being displayed at the Parker County Courthouse Annex on Santa Fe Drive in Weatherford.
Parker County law enforcement investigated over 150 cases in which children were listed as the victims in 2016. In the same year, Child Protective Services in Parker County received 725 reports with allegations of child physical abuse or child sexual abuse.
Anyone aware of child abuse and neglect should report it immediately to 1-800-252-5400, the Texas Abuse Hotline. Texas law says anyone who thinks a child, or person 65 years or older, or an adult with disabilities is being abused, neglected, or exploited must report it to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.
Parker County appreciates the work on behalf of the children that comes from the Parker County Child Advocacy Center, the Parker County Child Protective Services Board and CASA for Children (Court Appointed Special Advocates).
