PARKER COUNTY PROCLAIMS SEPTEMBER 2022 AS PROSTATE CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

Prostate Cancer Awareness Proclamation 1

Parker County proclaims September 2022 as Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.  Prostate cancer constitutes 20% of all male cancer diagnoses and 10% of all male cancer deaths.  In Texas, an estimated 17,850 new cases of prostate cancer and an estimated 2,260 deaths will occur in 2022.  Prostate cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in American men only behind skin cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in men behind lung cancer.  This year approximately 268,490 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in the United States - that's one man every 1.9 minutes - and roughly 34,500 will die this year from the disease - which is one man every 15.2 minutes.  Prostate cancer not only affects men but also affects their family and friends.  Education regarding prostate cancer and early detection strategies are critical to saving lives, preserving, and protecting our families.  The citizens of Parker County are encouraged to increase their personal awareness of prostate cancer and the importance of prostate cancer screenings.
